10 minutes painting 5 minutes running, .... luckily I found some shelter out of the wind, and there was some kind of stairway that I used quite well, ... hehehe
"IJzige morgen." Arnhem, Holland. (Ice morning.) Oil on panel. 24 x 30 cm.
Due to the holidays I guess I will be painting a bit less, ... When I do I will upload them but then again, I am planning to get out of town a few days as well, so no Internet connection for me.
As said the day before yesterday, I promised to show one of the other work I made last Thursday. I started this one even earlier, ... last Friday to be exact but it went so dark so soon that I had to stop. Luckily grey days never change so I could take it up right where I left, ...
It's a bit abstract, but I do like that. The line between real and abstract is always a strange and narrow one and not only in plein air work.
Saw police men defending a Christmas-tree in Greece today, who can imagine that for example?! > Here <
"Hielkje." Arnhem, Holland. (Hielkje.) Oil on panel. 24 x 30 cm.
It is fun, painting all kind of night scenes, nocturnes that is. And I guess Holland is a good place to do it, very light polluted, ....
One of the great advantage is that the light hardly changes so everybody who's asking what I am doing is a victim, because I am well dressed against the cold, so after a few minutes you can see they are cooling down, after another few minutes they try to end the chat, hehehe
I am bad, ... lol. "Tegenover de boom." Westervoort, Holland. (Facing the tree.) Oil on panel. 24 x 30 cm.
At least it isn't a grey day, ... Fog is nice to paint, all mysterious shapes and forms. A bit tricky because you never know when it's going to lift, if it does at all, ...
"Wilg en mist." Westervoort, Holland. (Willow and fog.) Oil on panel. 24 x 30 cm.
P.s. After reviewing the photos i took, I tweaked the painting a little, tried to get a little more fog into it.
I passed this school so often, can't remember how many times that is, but each time I thought "I have to paint it someday!" Today was the day, ...
It's an old time school, many of these schools are already teared down or out of commission, this is one of them, they only use it as teaching room for art class or as studios for artist or something else.
Here it's an art class Atelier Creso named, they even have a website.
It snowed the whole day today, but not real snow just white stuff that melts right away when it hits the ground. Pity, because I was in Doesburg, a very old city and what would be more fun to paint then a very old town completely covered in a white blanket?
"Toch een beetje sneeuw." Doesburg, Holland. (Even though a little bit of snow.)Oil on panel. 24 x 30 cm.
This was the scene I had in my mind a week ago "Morgenpad." Not as spectacular as I had in mind, but well worth trying to paint. Notice the little track on the right side, .. that's the same as from the earlier painting together with the tree.
"Morgenstrepen." Westervoort, Holland. (Morningstripes.) Oil on panel. 24 x 30 cm.

Colour, Obsession, Joy and Torment The Daily Painters Art Gallery 2008
From around the globe, 146 artists gathered in cyberspace. We donned our best berets, and set out with our paintbrushes and easels in one hand, and our computers in the other. Our mission? To bring you the world, one brushstroke at a time.
We traveled abroad, and explored our own back yards. We walked through farms and gardens, cities and factories. We sat for a while in restaurants, bars and cafés. We rummaged through kitchen cabinets and tool sheds. We strolled on sandy beaches and sat on the docks, meandered through forests and climbed mountains. Sometimes we journeyed through worlds of our own imagination.
We painted our world, in all its splendor. Friends and families, strangers and crowds, caught forever in everyday poses and outlandish outfits. Dogs, cats, fish and birds frozen in time. Cows in lush meadows and colorful bears. Scenic panoramas and tiny flowers. Fast cars, old trucks, boats small and large, and bicycles. Peaches, pears, cherries, peanut butter sandwiches - admired and then devoured. Vases and bowls, tools and toys, arranged in just the right light. We captured children playing and loved ones napping. We painted our favorite pastimes, secret places, and childhood memories. And, we recorded more than a few sunrises and sunsets.
We delighted in the colors, obsessed over the details, laughed in joy, and even endured a few private moments of torment. Then, we logged onto our blogs to share our experiences with you. Turn the page for a glimpse into our worlds, or visit dailypainters.com for new visions every day.

Although this was done yesterday (been to busy today with other things) It was very cold, ... even had to run up and down the shipyard to warm up a bit several times.
"Metaalbedrijf Misty." Arnhem, Holland. (Metal-yard Misty.) Oil on panel. 24 x 30 cm.
As promised, here the one from yesterday. Erics boat, Eric is a fellow artist living and working on his boat, he make lovely etches. He invited me to travel to Nijmegen, so with a little luck, I am going.
"Erics boot." Arnhem, Holland. (Erics boat.)Oil on board. 24 x 30 cm.
My second one today, ... jippie! It was a bit strange today starting awful grey but once set up the Sun came through, ... I have no idea if I like that or what?
Tomorrow the other one, or you can visit my website.
"Jij gaat mee." Arnhem, Holland. (You are coming with me.) Oil on panel. 20 x 24 cm.
To cold and drizzling grey weather today, ... you have no idea how frustrating that can be sooo enormously grey! A nice day to go to a place that I had in mind for these kind of days, the owner was busy welding some kind of fence together with his companion, .. a lovely afternoon it was nice quiet and cosy.
"sterrenmakerij." Arnhem, Holland. (Starmaking shop Bennik.) Oil on panel. 24 x 30 cm.
I really was amazed that I could stand on a stage for two hours without some professional asking what I was doing. But it did gave a nice view and with the melting snow a nice scenery.
Cold though.
"Station Arnhem Centraal." Arnhem, Holland. (Arnhem Station Central.) Oil on panel. 24 x 30 cm.
Didn't feel like painting today, although it was lovely white outside. So here one from last weekend.
I cleaned my palette instead and edited brunt Umber to my Kevin Macpherson palette. I couldn't stand the time that it took to mix colors painting sunsets and sunrises, it just took too long.
"Laatste morgen." Eibergen, Holland. (Last morning.) Oil on panel. 24 x 30 cm.
This building I had so long in the picture, ... it's quite a lonely building surrounded by all kinds of industrial stuff. Now that they have cut down some trees surrounding it it 's even more obvious that it's gonna be disappear soon.
Sometimes it's almost a run against time to paint all those lovely old buildings and country sides before they change it, again and again and again.
Yeah Holland isn't Holland anymore, they better can call it
"The Netherlands."
"Nog steeds staand." Arnhem, Holland. (Still standing.) Oil on panel. 24 x 30 cm.
Ow btw. I did managed to sneak out yesterday altough it turned almost out to be nocturnal, ...
"Oud en Nieuw." Westervoort, Holland. (Old & new) Oil on panel. 16 x 24 cm.
They still renovating the stages beside the Rhine in Arnhem, ... To be honest it's doesn't look nice but the ships are still there and that's always a huge reward to paint!
"Wat is nieuw." Arnhem, Holland. (What's new.) Oil on panel. 24 x 30 cm.
Autumn is almost over, it's been windy here in Holland the last couple of days. There are just a few leafs hanging on their fingernails I guess, to scared to make the big jump into eternity.
"Daag herfst." Arnhem, Holland. (bye autumn.) Oil on panel. 24 x 30 cm.
It's funny to see that Rob's weather is usually one day ahead then the dutch weather, ... so today is was coming and going with the rain, clouds, sun and wind, ...
"Af en aan." Westervoort, Holland. (coming and going.) Oil on board (panel) 24 x 30 cm.
Yes you're right, this is on the other side of the same Church. Every Friday there is a market, with cloth, all kind of fabric, vegetables, and other stuff and of course lots of people.
quite a challenge.
"Vrijdagmarkt." Arnhem, Holland. (Friday marketday.) Oil on board. 22 x 24 cm.
One positive thing about light pollution is that you can paint almost everywhere, ... the only thing to keep in mind is to keep you palette as limited as possible and that you stay in a relative white light, now a days much of the streetlight in Holland are high pressure mercury lights reddish that is, ....
"Dudok." Arnhem, Holland. (Dudok.) Oil on board. 24 x 30 cm.
It's getting cold out here!! "Waterkoud" they say in Holland by this weather,... It's very foggy and the wind is blowing a little so every little heat is immediately gone, ...
The good side of it is that it's grey, and it stays grey the whole day good to paint a little more complex and go a little further then usually.
After that I had "Fun Time!" At least that's what I feel by the sketching these little boats, .. with matchstick an sepia off course.
"Scheepswerf Peters." Angeren, Holland. (Shipyard Peters.) Oil on board, 24 x 30 cm.
It's still marvelous weather here, and all the leaves are still hanging, .. more or less. So you don't have to go far to get a nice spot to paint, .. in fact this is almost in my street, a few blocks away.
"Vos de Waelstraat." Westervoort, Holland. Oil on board. 18 x 24 cm.
As I said yesterday, I've got my work back from Rob, This was one of them "Brecon Beacons" just an awesome place. And you have to imagine, for someone who's from Holland or better The Netherlands, or even better "FLATLAND" never have flown and within an hour after landing set up his gear to paint these kind of sites is a bit too much, .. at first it wasn't much but today with all the rain outside I just give it a go, ... and I think it has now that tiny feeling of the awesomeness feeling it's gives i.r.l.
Brecon Beacons, Wales, Uk. Oil on board, 24 x 30 cm.
So here is the last one from the serie of Zaltbommel. I hadn't got the time anymore yesterday evening to tweak it a little, yes I do tweak some of my work a little. Mainly because not always the paint dries fast enough to go over it again, for example here the white of the house was to dull and the shadow on it to dark.
"Zaltbommel III." Zaltbommel, Holland. Oil on board 24 x 30 cm.
Been to Zaltbommel today, a little commission work as well looks like it is commission season now, but I was a nice trip and I had a good art-book thanks to Rob. These kind of commissions are a bit tricky, you travel to a city you hardly know and have to go for it more ore less, ... with a camera it's much easier you shoot 10,000 photo's and look at home if you hit something. With painting it's a bit different you only have 3 maybe 4 bullets so to speak, ...
"Zaltbommel I" Zaltbommel, Holland. Oil on board. 18 x 24 cm.
"Zaltbommel II." Zaltbommel, Holland. Oil on board. 18 x 24 cm.
