Back from the bulb-fields.

Exhausted and still not finished with all the paintings (16 in 4 day!)

I am more than satisfied with this little trip, ... learned a lot!

One thing for example that some colour really aren't mixable with

Menk's palette (Sorry Kevin) but the pink and purple fields just aren't

the same when painted in brownish colors.

Although I am very busy making my car (an old Morris form 1968) ready

for the upcoming summer I did manege to paint with Johan Reinboud today.

We drove to Wageningen a larger city along the Rhine with an awesome

view over the river at one point. (made 2 although the second is a quickie)

Utrecht is sooo ancient!

Especially St. Martin's Cathedral Utrecht, or Dom Church (Dutch: Domkerk) and

then especially the "pandhof" very touristic also, ...

This is my interpretation of it, ... not quiet finished but I am  to tiered to tweak it now.

Today's effort and I have been caught by Rob, while I

was tweaking it a bit, ... I have a lot of problems with the

yellow greens with this palette, they tend to get much to cool

maybe a thorough pink/orange wash will do the trick, although I don't

really like that approach.

Aah well tomorrow Utrecht!

The most beautiful house in Holland, ... ahum.

At least that's how this TV contest is called, I heard from it from

a colleague that this (at least what's shown) is still in the race

to win 1000.000,- Euro to restaurated this lovely building.

I even didn't know it existed, it was well tucked away behind

all kind of bushes, ..

Still trying the new palette, ...

Did tried it today again with Mencks palette and I am getting used

to it, more or less. What I've noticed that you learn to see a little different.

I mean everybody who has painted with a colleague knows that his or her

colour usually are somewhat different then yours and this palette forces me

to see some colors slightly different, ... Kevin Menck mentions it's all about

values, values & values and solid drawing of course, ... and how right he is!

You can turn your TV set on black and white and still watch it, but turn

the contrast up or down and gonne is the picture, ...

Anyway I made two today and I am quiet happy with them.

Looking forward to the next one.

Kevin Menck, ...

I am a great admirer of Kevin Menck's work.

And knowing that he's painting only with three colours as well.

I gave it a shot today, his palette is:

Ultramarine Blue, Cadmium Scarlet and Cadmium Yellow Lemon.

I painted for a few years now with Kevin MacPherson's palette, being:

Ultramarine Blue dark, Alizarin Crimson middle and Cadmium Yellow Light.

I don't know yet what to think of Menck's palette, it seems to be

leaning to the brown/red side while MacPherson's palette leans more to

the reddish/blue side, ... I'll give it some more shots to make up my mind.

Being a plein air painter I like the idea to take as little with me as possible

and three colours has to be enough, ...

So please feel free this time to give your thoughts about this work, I really

want to know what your thinking about this possible change!

Back again, ...

So after a good night sleep and some tweaking, some more paintings

of my trip to Bruchem, Zaltbommel and 's Hertogenbosch. I even made

a new photo of the painting showed yesterday, it was a little yellowish.

March is famous here about the showers it has, one moment it's spring as much as it

can get, and other moment you have heavy snow, ... this one I started with snow hehehe

but soon after I had started it stopped and when I finished it was complete sunny, ...

Why tweak? ... now you know!

Back from a few days away.

Easter almost passed, I had some marvelous days off in zaltbommel.

Made some paintings as well, one from a dragonfountain in Den Bosch

or 's Hertogenbosch that is.
