Painting in Nijmegen, Holland.

One thing I have to remember!
That it is most likely the ferry is out of order during high tide!!
It saved a bike trip of at least 12 km. (10.0000 ml or so)

Anyway it was high tide, ... and is such a impressive sight each time,
not that the water is deep tho, (I was standing in the water during this session)
but it expand soo enormous, just awesome.

"Hoogwater Nijmegen." Nijmegen, Holland.

Yellow (Geel in Dutch) was all there was to see
when I started to paint this famous bridge of Arnhem.
As I mentioned before it's tricky painting fog, before
you know you add more and more and realize in the
end you painted all the fog away, ...

"Geel." Arnhem, Holland.
(Yellow.)  Oil on panel.

After that I got on the building site where they build a new shoreline

Painting in Kampen, Holland.

Although it's quiet a trip it's well worth making it!
Kampen is a lovely ancient city with at least three HUGE city
entrances. Tried to paint one of them, and the local market.
Every once and awhile a market man came down the stairs
to have a pee, ... in the end I just painted one of them, it does
gives a nice extra item I thought.

First nocturnal of this winter (I think)

Yesterday evening "Plein Eire" held a ROUND THREE - Nocturnes
I thought I'll join them although stayed in Holland.

Went to my local ice skating track, I knew those guys where ice skating
but did expect that the light was orange/yellow and that the ice skaters
where thát good. (Good ice skaters are hard to paint!) Anyway with
a little torch a premixed as much I could and kept going.

up because it was outside the whole day, ... you can see what
happens when it's a bit too cold and snowy.

am I to ague about that?! It's becoming more and more
colder now though with the wind picking up more speed.

Anyway there was soo little snow I guessed I rather could
paint some ice skating kids on the local ice track in Arnhem.

Nijkerk, ... it didn't snow much but enough to get a lovely
winterely feel.

This building is standing in the middle of my home town,
it's a restored old farmhouse and in service for all kinds
of shows and exhibitions. It's the building where I had
my first show ever.

I discovered that shipyard Bennik dragged a new ship out of
the river, ... had to check that!

It was the ferry "Steeds voorwaarts"
that holds service between Dieren and Oldburgen.

Amazing how large a vessel looks when it is out of the water!

The Hague, tweaked. Den Haag, Holland.

I just post the last painting from yesterday, the other
I changed already at my blog. This is THE political
centre of The Netherlands, ... not much to look at
except the buildings but you really can feel the importance
when you paint over there. Being closely watched by
policeman and police cars that is!

"Het interview." Den Haag, Holland.
(The interview.) Oil on panel.
24 x 30 cm.

Did tweak the value a bit to give it more light.
and scape-welded larger parts than I did on site,
because the paint dried already a bit most of
the underlying details stay quite well when you
just give it a light varnish like tone.

"New land." Westevoort, Holland.

This little sketch is made on a spot where they
replaced a dike several times, ... a dike that
prevents the IJssel and the Rhine flooding
Westervoort. Don't ask me why the place
and replace this dike every few years, ...
I think that it is to keep the Dutch occupied.

Anyway I used my new pochade for the first
time, there for the size is a little different and
it's on paper. It's a nice box Antony, thanks
for making this possible!

"Behind the dump-yard." Westervoort, Holland.

Yesterday I received my

"Rosemarietjes"
(Rosemary's Mongoose long flats)

and today I had the change to try them out!

It's very hard to remember that you have other brushes as well,
you could paint the whole world with only these brushes, ... what a treat!

I am not that proud of this one, because I was much to much
fiddling around with my new Rosemarietjes, ... but hey practice makes art!

"Achter het stort." Westervoort, Holland.
(Behind the dump yard.) Oil on panel.

"Bijklussen." Giesbeek, Holland. (little improvement)

As said I thought I had to clean up this little painting a bit,
I didn't liked the arm of the painter a lot and also wasn't
completely satisfied about the mast in the back, ...

Think its now finished. But then again,
when is a painting finished?
