Still not sure about this new palette, it does work well
on sunny days, but on clouded overcast grey weather, ... ?
Ow well I keep at it this spring, and even maybe this summer as well.

Would it help to use Cadmium Red instead of Cadmium Scarlet? That would still give you a red, but a bit nearer to the crimson you were using before.
I use Cadmium Red, ...
It's more a thing of values I guess, ... this palette is much higher in value than Macpherson's palette is. It does help to make the initial sketch in as dark as it can get, but then again I really had the idea today that this palette isn't that suited in a Dutch climate, ...
I tend to enlarge your paintings for the full effect Rene and this one has such a sense of space. Love the brush strokes.
So this is still Menck's palette, yes? I can't remember what it was made up of. I just like this painting very, very much Rene and Art with Liz is right to recommend a click to enlarge this. I love the freedom of the brush strokes. Incidentally this scene is almost identical to one of our local parks (Chethams) where they knocked down the big house where the lord of the manor used to live and left the steps and a little stone work. I should paint it then you can see !!
